We will discuss all aspects of this Indoor Track Season.. Very informative for all parents.. Meeting will begin at 6.30pm
From Coach Perks: It’s 3:30PM, about 35 degrees, the wind is out of the NW at 15 mph, there are a few snowflakes in the air. Five of us are doing a VO2 max workout on the grass at Baird Park. What’s neat is that it’s not just us “old folks”, the very talented and highly competitive Arlington High School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams are there doing a very similar workout. They are continuing their training to run in the NYS Nike Cross Country Nationals qualifier which will be held at Bowdoin Park on Nov. 29th. The top two girls’ and boys’ teams, plus the top five individuals not on one of those teams get a free trip to Oregon to run in the Nike Cross Country National Championships.
A few observations: not one of the kids complains about the cold and wind; there is no joking around, they are focused on the task at hand; they understand the workout and are always on the starting line ready to go when the allotted recovery time between intervals is up. It’s easy to see why they have been so successful.
I’m sure they wonder what the heck we are doing there. Do they think the really old guy who gets a big headstart on every interval should be home where it’s nice and warm sitting in his rocking chair? (Yup, that would be me.)
What I’m wondering is - do they love the sport as much as we do? How many of them will be out on a November afternoon doing a workout when they are 40, 50 or 60 years old? Yes, our little group covered all those decades.
My times were slow today. That’s ok. As is often the case these days, it’s not the speed, it’s the doing that matters.
To the Cross Country team:
There is an awards banquet at Jay on Monday the 24th at 7 pm. It is a dessert night, so everyone has to bring some sort of dessert. We know it’s not the same as the usual dinner, but we expect everyone to be there.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!
Congratulations to Rachel Miura , Ryan Gomba and Bruce Hotaling. The 3 of them have been nominated as this years All Northern County Team for this past X/Country season..
The Coaches are all excited about the Season. Throughout this year keep this quote in the front of your mind: in the class room and at practice…..
“NO SACRAFICE, NO VICTORY”
