SCHOOLS AGAINST CANCER
5K RUN/WALK

Join us on March 20, 2010 for the Schools Against Cancer 5k Run/Walk for Relay for Life. It is the perfect way to give your athletes a life lesson in giving back to the community while encouraging school pride and promoting healthy competition between schools. The run/walk will take place at the Herbert Reisman Sports Complex adjacent to the Eugene Levy Memorial Park in Pomona, New York and is open to students, faculty and family members along with community members.

Each pre-registered participant will receive a commemorative t-shirt. Points will be awarded for each participant (1 point per student, 2 points per adult) and the school with the most participants will win the YAC Community Spirit award to proudly display at their school. The entry fee is $20 per person and all proceeds will be used to support the patient services, educational programs and research of the American Cancer Society. Cancer indiscriminately strikes all communities and the American Cancer Society is there to help families navigate a cancer diagnosis. We urge you to encourage your athletes, coaches, faculty and their families to join us at this fun-filled morning. Feel free to use this as a practice or dry land training for your sports teams.

To register either contact your school’s Youth Against Cancer advisor or submit your entry forms to the address provided. For additional information contact Sheri Dempsey at 914-419-2308 or sdempsey@nanuetsd.org or Nancy Logan at nhogan@nanuetsd.org or call the ACS at 845-368-1252 extension 2108. We look forward to sharing this great event as we teach our students and athletes an invaluable lesson about what it means to be part of a community that cares.

             Sheri Dempsey Nancy Logan

Go on the Armory website , go to calander, look for Nationals in NY.Look for USATF Membership. Once payment is complete make a copy for yourself and one for the coach. Yow will not be able to compete with out this proof of purchase.

2010 USATF Membership: All athletes
that participate in the 2010 National Scholastic Indoor Championship will need a valid 2010 USATF number. All participants must bring proof of purchase to registration

We will not be wearing John Jay Tops.. Start thinking about what you will be wearing.. Relay teams must have matching running tops.. Look for something inexpensive..Must be approved by Coaches!!

Start planning on how you will be getting to the armory for your event. Coaches can not drive your student athletes to the armory.

No Transportation
No Communication
Lack of Support
Bad Weather

Several factors that have made it impossible for our full team to compete today at the State Qualifier. It is a shame when you have kids work their butts off and not be able to compete.. Yea we had some alternatives , ways of getting our kids there but it is not the responsibilty of the coaches to okay those avenues with out the backing of the our athletic directors. We finally got the okay for parents to drive their kids to the competition late on Sat. Rides were arranged and some of our athletes got a chance to compete..What a way to finish an exhausting day of phone tag with Ally Bernasconi making her way on to the Intersectional Section One State Relay Team with a 4th place finish. She will compete at Cornell University. next w/end.. It just shows that hard work by everyone pays off.. Congratulations Ally Bernasconi …other competitors today were:
Daniella Bernasconi – 600m-7th
Mike Turi – 1600m – 12th
Brandon Summers – Wt Throw-5th
Irene Santiago – Shot Put- 19th
– Wt Throw – 5th
I would to thank the Turi family for driving and the Santiago family for their support in helping get our athletes down to the Armory.
